Shipping Example

Here's an example of the care that goes into shipping crt's, because it really takes very careful shipping to make sure they arrive safely.

Start with a few layers of cardboard that is not too much bigger than the crt:

Cut a layer of some padding for the bottom, in this case I'm using an old memory foam mattress:

Lay it in the botom:

Place the monitor in the box:

Secure the monitor in the box with more padding, focusing on the front area (most fragile).  I'm using sound deadening acoustic foam here.

place another layer of thick foam on top (memory foam mattress):

Close that box up, and find another larger box.  Lay a layer of foam on the bottom:

Place the first box into the second box:

Secure with more foam:

close it all up!

Here's another tv shipped:

First step start with a box that's just a little bit bigger than the monitor you're shipping.

Throw down a few layers of cardboard to the bottom to make it a bit more durable.

Place the tv in.  Always make sure something is covering the screen to prevent scratches on the tube.  The sides of the tv were where there was the least amount of room to put extra padding, so I prioritized those spots and added more padding there.

We need lots of protection to the front of the tube, that's where this big piece of styrofoam comes in.

Pushed into place

More cushion around the sides

now that the main sides are protected, I just want to make sure it doesn't move around, so I stuffed a bunch of paper and bubblewrap all around:

I then added all these layers of "sound deadening squares" to the top:

I forgot to take a picture of them laying on the top, but it covered the top securely, and offered a couple inches of padding.  After those were layed on top, that box was taped up securely.

Now that the tv is secured, and protected well in this box, we need to find another larger box that this box can go into:

I then layered the bottom with a few inches of this padding, because on the first box I didn't have any actual padding on the bottom:

I then layed the first box into the new box

And added more of this soud proofing squares to specifically where the front of the tv is, since that's where it's most fragile.

Then you can see I add more padding around each side of the first box to assure there is protection on all sides and angles:

Then I stuffed bubblewrap and paper around each edge just to make sure nothing else is moving

Time to cover up the top

Then you need about 20 feet of tape to tape it up, and it's ready:

Here's a 14" PVM:

First I layed down this padding in the bottom of this box

Put the monitor in the box, and squeezed a bunch more padding all around it.

And a bunch more on top.  I am keeping in mind that there isn't much padding between the front of the monitor and the box.

Find another bigger box:

Orientate the first box so that the largest piece of styrofoam is at the front side of the monitor, since we didn't have as much padding on that side.

Fill in the rest of the space with thick, durable packing.

Close it up, and ship it. Sorry no pictures of it closed up. Both of these boxes are double walled.
