Panasonic BT-S901Y (Brand New!)
Still has that new CRT smell! But seriously, after dealing with crts for so long you do notice a new crt smell. I guess it's the electronics.
I did take the monitor out of the box to test it out, and I did open the monitor up to take some photos of the insides. Show off that super clean inside.
So, why does a new crt even matter? Well, in my opinion what makes the biggest difference in quality between two crts which are the same model, is the hours on the tube. As a tube gains more hours, over time it's not able to focus as well, and the phosphors get wore down so they don't shine as bright. You can see this clearly on a set that has burn in, the burned in phosphors don't illuminate nearly as bright as the surrounding phosphors. So, when you get a tube with no hours on it, you're certain to get the brightest and sharpest set possible for that model. Plus all the electronic components aren't used either, so that's nice too!
When I was inside I adjusted the geometry to what I thought looked best. You can see a picture of all the little potentiometers inside, I drew an arrow on the picture. This is how you adjust geometry. What's really nice, and especially rare on sets this size, is you even get a horizontal size adjustment! (keep reading --->)
I think just from being in the box for almost 30 years, shimmering around and what not, the monitor has taken on a few surface scratches and swirls, so please take good notice of all the pictures.
This set has composite and s video, and the s video looks great! It has it's own unique look, and gets super bright.
